It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

The day after Thanksgiving, we headed out to get our Christmas Tree. We stopped at the Home Depot because it was close to where we were. They didn't have very many and the ones that were in the affordable section didn't look so good. As we were leaving, I spotted a gorgeous tree in the "costs way too much" section and was admiring it. A worker asked me if that is the tree I wanted. I told her that I would gladly take that tree off of her hands but that it was a bit pricey for us. She said that the tree was ours for the price of the ones we were originally looking at. I couldn't believe it! Not only had our hunt for the Christmas tree only taken about 5 minutes, we got a beautiful tree at a great deal!

Thanksgiving

Well, it got off to a bumpy start but it ended well. I got up early Thanksgiving morning to get the turkey started because we were hosting the feast. I got the turkey all ready and preheated the oven. Everything seemed fine. I put the turkey in the oven and poof - THE OVEN GOES OUT! The oven decides to break for the first time on Thanksgiving morning when I have guests coming!!! Yikes!!!! After a few minutes of panic, we started calling around looking for a cooked turkey. God provided! My husband got the last cooked turkey at a local restaurant! We later cooked the original turkey at my Mother's house. So we had lots of leftover turkey!! I only took one picture on Thanksgiving due to being busy. I hate that when I forget to document a special occasion. Hope everyone had a wonderful day!

P.S. Just in case you were wondering, my daughter is drinking sparkling grape juice out of that wine glass!

Seven Prayers A Day

If you click on the picture it will bring you to a great post on the blog "Bring The Rain". The post is about praying over our children. Angie gives 7 great prayers to pray each day for them. She is planning on doing this for a week and is hoping others will join her. In this crazy upside down world, we must never forget to blanket them in prayer!

Some Day My Prince Will Come

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful princess.......
She was searching for her prince. Much to her dismay, there were none to be found. Then all of a sudden out of the corner of her eye, she noticed a little frog.
Even though he was just a frog, she sensed some potential. She had read a lot of fairytales in her day and she had an idea.
She had read that sometimes kissing a frog could result in a prince. It didn't work but the princess bride and the little green frog became the best of friends. The princess decided to remain in her beautiful bridal gown until the perfect prince came along.
THE END!

Martha Speaks

The other night we took the kids to Barnes and Noble to see Martha from the LPB show Martha Speaks. If you are not familiar with the show, it is about a talking dog. While being a fun show for kids, it is also educational. I'll admit I haven't watched it a lot but from what I have seen, it works on building vocabulary. It is humurous to listen to my daughter try to work new words into our conversations.
Sister loved seeing Martha and even got to take a picture with her. Little brother didn't want anything to do with Martha. In his little world, Martha ranks up there with Santa Claus. Brother did enjoy the cake that they were given!!! As soon as he saw it, he exclaimed,"Birt tay take!!!".

School Field Trip

This week my daughter and her classmates went on a field trip to a local pumpkin patch. The children participated in some educational activites, crafts, games, and storytime. They had a great time. Little brother and I tagged along and enjoyed the beautiful weather.

Hurricane Gustav - Part 2

As I mentioned in the previous post, we were without power for about 1 week. Of course, we didn't know how long it would be to get it restored. Some estimates for our area were very depressing. We spent the first 3 nights in our hot, dark house. My poor 2 year old son didn't understand what was going on and every night would get really upset when it started to get dark. He would cry "lights, lights!". After 3 nights, Grandma Dee got her power back so we spent night #4 at her house. Thanks Grandma Dee!!!! The next day, my grandmother was released from the hospital. She, too, didn't have any power so she came to stay at Grandma Dee's house. We decided that it might be best to take the kids on a little road trip so that my grandmother could get some rest in peace and quiet and so that the kids could have a break from the situation. Not only had their entire routine been disturbed but everything was abnormal. We had to stand in lines at the grocery store just to get in. Cars would line up for miles to get gas. We would go on hunts to find ice. It was crazy! So, a road trip it was!! We headed to Biloxi, Mississippi for the weekend. Poor Biloxi is still a mess from Hurricane Katrina that hit 3 years ago but the hotel where we stayed was a lot of fun!

not a Brad Paisley fan, I guess (Sorry, Brad!)

We had a lot of fun and the best news of all was that our power had been restored that (Sunday) morning. The house and the refrigerator were even cool by the time we made it home! We pray that the rest of hurricane season will not be so eventful!

Hurricane Gustav - Part1

On Monday, September 1, 2008 (Labor Day), Hurricane Gustav paid us an unwelcomed visit! The wind was incredible! I've been through several hurricanes but this was for sure the one that caused the most devastation in our area. We were very blessed. We had some fence damage and minor tree damage. So many people in our area had trees come through their homes. We were without electricity for about a week which is difficult especially with small children. Again, we were so fortunate. Some people will be without power for weeks. Here are a few pictures that I took on that day.

Summer Vacation at the Beach

A good time was had by all! It is amazing how quickly the days seemed to go by when we were having such fun! Can't wait to do it all again!

First Day of First Grade

This is my sweetheart's first day of first grade. The first day she has stayed at school all day. She was so excited. She can't wait for Art class and she found out that they will be doing Chapel this year. She is not quite sure what Chapel is but she said, "I have a feeling I'm going to love it!". When I picked her up she filled me in on her day and let me know that she was exhausted. Poor thing had homework on the first day of first grade. They don't waste any time! She is enjoying being with her old friends and making new ones.

Little brother was glad to see his sister after a long day of school. He's not quite sure what to make of her absence. I think he is enjoying the extra attention from Mom but is really happy to have his playmate back in the afternoons.
